In 1923 an important meeting was held at the Edgewater Beach Hotel in Chicago. Attending this meeting were nine of the most successful financiers.
- Charles Schwab, the president of the largest independent steel company
- Samuel Insull, the president of the largest utility company.
- Howard Hobson, the president of the largest gas company.
- Arthur Cotton, the greatest wheat speculator.
- Ritchard Whitney, the president of the New York Stock Exchange.
- Albert Fall, a member of the president's cabinet
- Jesse Livermore, the greatest "bear" on Wall Street
- Ivan Krueger, head of the greatest monopoly, and
- Leon Fraser, the president of the Bank of International Settlements.
Let's see what happened to these men 25yrs later...
- Charles Schwab died in bankruptcy, having lived on borrowed money for five years before his death.
- Samuel Insull died as a fugitive from justice and in bankruptcy in a foreign country.
- Howard Hopson went insane.
- Arthur Cotton was insolvent and died abroad.
- Ritchard Whitney spent time in Sing Sing penitentiary.
- Albert Fall was pardoned, so that he could die at home.
- Jesse Livermore, Ivan Krueger, and Leon Fraser all committed suicide.
Indeed all of these men learned well the art of making a living, but none of them learned how to live.
Don't invest in the temporary. Invest in the everlasting. Invest in souls!
The true investment is into the Kingdom of God, therefore -
"Remember that GOD, your God, gave you the strength to produce all this wealth so as to confirm the covenant that he promised to your ancestors--as it is today" Deut 8:18 MSG
If you forget about God...
"If you forget, forget GOD, your God, and start taking up with other gods, serving and worshiping them, I'm on record right now as giving you firm warning: that will be the end of you; I mean it--destruction" Deut 8:18 MSG
Did these men forget about God...?
Did they invite God into their boardroom meetings?
Do they consult the Holy Spirit in their decisions?
Do you...?
