PURPOSE OF THE CROSS

Isaiah 53 (700 yrs BC)
"He was wounded for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities, by His wounds we are healed

The Old Covenant - Atonement System.

During the Old Covenant you had to sacrifice a lamb for your sin ...

This annual offering did not erase your sins, it only covered your sins for the duration of that year.

This lamb had to be perfect, without any defects. It had to be “spotless”

A priest would inspect the lamb for any defects, and only once it was found without any defects, it would be sacrificed to cover your sins.

For the next year your sins would then be covered. You made atonement with God, and stood in righteousness before Him.

We are no longer required to make these sacrifices.

How are we "pardoned" from our sins?

Jesus Christ has become the sacrifial Lamb.

Jesus paid for our sins on the cross, and erased it completely. He paid the ultimate price, by dying for our sins. This did not only cover our sins, but erased it completely.

In the Old Testament, the priest inspected the sacrifial lamb for any defects. When Jesus became the sacrificial Lamb, Pilate "inspected Jesus" for defects.

Pilate said: “I find not fault in Him at all

Wow!
Christ was the perfect lamb to be offered, without defect, or blame. He was spotless, and without any sin. Our Lamb was perfect.

Our High priest [Jesus] offered Himself to God as the final sacrifice for our sins, past, present and future.

In Christ, our sins are forgiven, and there is no need to offer any sacrifices anymore!

By accepting Jesus Christ as your Saviour, Lord and King, you are declaring the "acceptance of Jesus as your Lamb"

God will "find Your Lamb perfect and without any defect, and accept Him"

The result is forgiveness by God, you have been "pardoned". It is essential to remain in closeness and in relationship with God your Saviour.

Reasons for Christ to be on death row
  • To absorb the wrath of God
  • To show God's love and grace for sinners
  • To cancel the legal demands of the Law against us
  • To become the ransom for many.
  • For forgiveness of our sin and to free us from condemnation
  • To heal moral and physical sickness
  • To deliver us from the present evil age
  • To free us from the slavery of sin
  • To unleash the Power of God in the Gospel
  • Enable us to live for Christ and not for ourselves.

About the Lords Supper….

And He [Jesus] said unto them :

Luke (KJV)
“With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer: For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God. And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves: For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come. And he took bread, and gave thanks, and broke it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: do this in remembrance of me. Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you”

The Lords Supper is the partaking of the emblems the Bread [resembling Jesus' physical body, wounded for us] and the fruit of the Wine [resembling the blood Jesus shed for us]. This is a time of reflection of the great sacrifice the Lord Jesus Christ made for us . A time of remembrance of His suffering and death and prophecy of His second coming - until the second coming.

We all are at war with Christ for the salvation of man. And we are the army of the Kingdom of Light, our enemy is clearly the force of darkness. [Ephesians 6:10-12]

"For there is only one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and people. He is the man Christ Jesus"
